Unfortunately I was not there. Okay I was there but that is the words rolling off many lips as they read this. As they missed one of the greatest black belt tests around. It was full of intrigue and some really nice commentary about the test. Not to mention the test was also dedicated to Gilberts father in memory of him.

After watching at least three recent black belt tests I can tell you this much. Each one is unique. They are as unique as the person taking them. Okay so the kata are the same and technique as well. But execution and what the judges throw at the student taking the test are always different in some way.

Saturday they had another black belt test for Whiteside Shotokan Karate. It was Ely this time what would be under the gun to take the test. As usual it was a packed house with most all his friends and family attending this solemn occasion. It was a long time in the making as well, he studied karate for 7 years before getting to this zenith in his journey.
